Cruising along the Coast

Saturday, May 23, 2015

We left Rome yesterday morning to drive to the coast along the Mediterranean Sea and Bay of Naples. We had a long bus ride of about six hours, but we took a few stops along the way. We passed Mt. Vesuvius on the highway!

We also took a break for lunch at a cute off the beaten path restaurant. I ordered my first dish of spaghetti. We also were served fresh beans from the garden! These beans were HUGE!

After we all were feeling refreshed, we took the precarious drive along the coast.  I've never been on a smaller road! We were in a fairly small bus, but there were large tour buses that kept passing us and we had to hug the corner. It was quite a feat to pass the bus.

We took a few scenic picture stops along the road too.

The water here is an incredible teal, blue color! I wish it was warm enough to dive in! As we were driving our guide, Giovanni pointed out various points of attractions and celebrities houses.

Here is the tower from the end scene of Mama Mia!

Once we made it to Amalfi, we had one hour to take in the view and browse through some shops. The speciality in this region is lemons, oranges, and olive oil! Everything smells so fresh and is bright!

Afterwards,we departed towards Sorrento. Our hotel is in the old downtown part of Sorrento. I walked around with some of my friends and we got a light dinner before bed.

I hope everyone is having a magnificent day!
